\u201cI<\/em> don\u2019t know how to say this without hurting your feelings.\u00a0 I think you\u2019re being a hypocrite.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Those were the words that I heard from my husband\u2019s mouth last week.\u00a0 No matter how much spiritual and personal growth work I\u2019ve done over the years, it was still difficult to hear my husband sharing how he felt about who I was being in our relationship.<\/p>\n

As I write this, I want you to know that my hands are sweating and I\u2019m asking myself whether I\u2019m actually going to hit \u201cPublish\u201d after I finish typing.\u00a0 It\u2019s not easy being this open and vulnerable and sharing what I call \u201cthe ugly side of my closet\u201d (You know, the side people can\u2019t see unless they really step in to look inside).\u00a0 However, I think it\u2019s important to share this, because I don\u2019t ever want to give the impression that having a great relationship means you never have to have the hard conversations, that you don\u2019t mess up every once in a while, or that once you get to that great place, there\u2019s no more work to do.<\/p>\n

As I mentioned in my previous post on listening for the heart message<\/a>, I believe it\u2019s important that I practice what I preach.\u00a0 I believe one of the reasons my clients appreciate and get the results they get from the coaching I give is because they can see that I live what I\u2019m teaching in my own life and I have the results I am promising they can have, too.<\/p>\n

So, as I sat there listening to my husband tell me how he was feeling, I didn\u2019t defend myself.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t tell him how mean that statement was. I didn\u2019t start telling him all of the things he <\/i>could be doing to make the relationship better.\u00a0 No. I listened. And, as hard as it was to admit, I had to agree with him.\u00a0 I was<\/i> being a hypocrite.<\/b><\/p>\n

See, the month of February was very busy for me as a relationship coach.\u00a0 Throughout the month I had been making public appearances, speaking on TV and radio shows, and delivering training to the members of our group coaching calls on how to keep the intimacy alive in a relationship.\u00a0 All of this busy-ness had me working around the clock, staying up late \u2013 sometimes way after my husband went to bed \u2013 making calls, returning emails, and feeling exhausted and overwhelmed.\u00a0 Basically, I was not making time for intimacy \u2013 physically or otherwise \u2013 in my own<\/i> relationship.<\/p>\n

In essence, I\u2019d forgotten to practice what I believe and teach my clients: <\/b><\/p>\n

Having a great relationship is about making a daily<\/i> commitment to love and honor the person I am with.\u00a0 It\u2019s about creating partnership, intimacy, and workability every<\/i> day<\/i>.\u00a0 It\u2019s about living out my wedding vows each and every day for a lifetime.<\/i><\/p>\n

Does it take work to have a wonderful, loving, intimate relationship? <\/b><\/i>Yes.<\/p>\n

Does it have<\/span> to be hard?<\/i> No.<\/p>\n

Am I perfect at it?<\/i> Not by a long shot!<\/p>\n

Is it <\/i>worth<\/em> the effort?<\/i><\/span> Absolutely!<\/p>\n

Having that conversation with my husband helped me in so many ways.<\/b><\/p>\n
