This weekend I had the pleasure of being pleasantly surprised by my hubby. I was feeling so sore after spending most of the day before cleaning out my sons\u2019 playroom.\u00a0 It was pretty late before I finally got to sit down, and the last<\/i> thing I wanted to do was move.\u00a0 When my husband said, \u201cLet\u2019s go upstairs,\u201d <\/i>much earlier than we usually go to bed, my first thought was \u201cI don\u2019t want to.\u201d <\/i>All I wanted to do was sit and relax for a while.<\/p>\n

To be honest, I was a little put off.\u00a0 I sort of felt like he was telling me what to do.\u00a0 So I almost said, \u201cNo.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

But I\u2019m so <\/i><\/b>glad I didn\u2019t!<\/p>\n

As much as I wanted to stay on the couch, laying down actually sounded heavenly, so I slowly got up and began gathering up some things to put away and take upstairs.\u00a0 \u00a0I could tell he was getting a little anxious, which was beginning to bug me, because I felt like he was hurrying me.\u00a0 But then I saw a hint of a smile and he said, \u201cIf you don\u2019t hurry up, you\u2019re going to miss your surprise!\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

He had me at \u201csurprise\u201d!<\/p>\n

When I got upstairs, the bathroom was lit in vanilla-scented candles, the tub was filled with bubbles, and Michael Bubl\u00e9 was playing in the background!<\/p>\n

How romantic is that?\u00a0 Very<\/em>!<\/p>\n

I hugged him and thanked him for such a sweet and romantic gesture and told him that this was exactly <\/i>what I needed!\u00a0 Then he confessed that he\u2019d been thinking about doing that for me all day, since we had the conversation in the morning as we held one another in the kitchen about wishing we could stay in bed all day, like we used to before we had kids.\u00a0 So sweet!<\/p>\n

As I soaked in the bubble bath while getting a lovely foot massage, I thought about how close I came to saying that I didn\u2019t want to go upstairs; how I\u2019d interpreted his excitement about surprising me as him trying to rush me, and how, after all of these years, he\u2019s still able to pleasantly surprise me!\u00a0 I mean, how many couples can say that this type of romance is still alive after 14 years (and two kids)?<\/p>\n

So the lessons I learned were:<\/p>\n
