Today we’re celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the United States, and, aside from relishing having a day to spend with my family, I also wanted to take a few minutes to reflect and remember why this day is so important.<\/span><\/p>\n

If I had to use just three words to describe Dr. King and his life, the words would be\u00a0faith, love, and hope<\/em><\/strong>. \u00a0And, of course, all of these were enveloped in his\u00a0dream.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

As I was looking through some of his inspirational quotes, I came across this one:<\/span><\/p>\n

“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.”<\/span><\/p>\n

As soon as I read it, I immediately thought back to my family’s vacation to Hawaii in November, and the way I felt when I stood inside the volcano crater and looked up at the tiny staircase that was miles and miles away, at the top of the mountain (see the photo below, and you’ll see the staircase\u00a0at the upper left-hand corner). \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

I remember thinking, “How in the world will I ever make it up there, especially with my fear of heights and the pain in my knee?”<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

I didn’t know how I’d make it, but I did\u00a0<\/em>know one thing:<\/span><\/p>\n

I was NOT going to allow my fear to stop me from getting to the top of that mountain and witnessing the view from up there!<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

So, I started climbing. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And, yes, I was scared. \u00a0I got dizzy a few times. \u00a0My feet slipped on the rocks. And the pain in my knee became almost unbearable the higher we climbed. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But I had faith that something beautiful, something I’d never seen or experienced before, was waiting for me at the top of that mountain and on the other side of my fear. \u00a0So I climbed!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

And, when I got to the top of the mountain, it was so worth it! \u00a0I’d climbed my first mountain, the view was absolutely breathtaking, and I was experiencing it all with the three guys I love most in this world!<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Honestly, it was MORE<\/strong><\/u> than worth it!<\/span><\/p>\n

So, why am I telling you<\/em> this?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

I know that love and relationships can be scary. There is so much uncertainty because there aren’t any guarantees. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

You don’t know if it’s going to work out with the guy you are seeing. <\/span><\/p>\n

You’re afraid of having your heart broken again. <\/span><\/p>\n

It feels safer to stay where you are, even though it’s not where you want to be.<\/span><\/p>\n

I get it.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, staying where you are — whether you are single or in a relationship that is stagnant or not working — is the surefire<\/em> way to NOT get to where you truly desire to be: The place where you feel loved and adored. \u00a0That amazing place where you know\u00a0that you know that you are loved<\/u>!<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Maybe it’s been a long journey for you. <\/span><\/p>\n

Maybe you feel like the pain is more than you can take. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Or maybe you’re just\u00a0tired\u00a0<\/em>of trying.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Whatever your “mountain” is, I promise<\/strong><\/u> you that if you will have your faith<\/strong> be stronger than your fear, if you are willing to focus on your desire<\/strong> more than your doubt, and if you are courageous enough to take that first step in the direction of your dreams<\/strong>, with the right guidance and support, you WILL get to the place where you are in the relationship your heart desires with the man who is absolutely right for you.<\/span><\/div>\n
