{"id":9558,"date":"2020-05-01T13:24:54","date_gmt":"2020-05-01T17:24:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/heartsdesireintl.com\/home\/?p=9558"},"modified":"2021-02-22T19:30:45","modified_gmt":"2021-02-23T00:30:45","slug":"how-to-overcome-social-distancing-anxiety","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/heartsdesireintl.com\/home\/how-to-overcome-social-distancing-anxiety\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Overcome Social Distancing Anxiety"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[et_pb_section fb_built=&#8221;1&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.22&#8243;][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;3.25&#8243;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.25&#8243; custom_padding=&#8221;|||&#8221; custom_padding__hover=&#8221;|||&#8221;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.27.4&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366;\">by Gladys Diaz\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Even before the events of Covid-19 shook our world, women would come to us because they were triggered by the distance they felt in relationships.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Whether it was physical distance or <i>perceived<\/i> distance (like he starts texting\/calling less than he did before), distance is something that causes a lot of women anxiety.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Because of the events of the last couple of months and the \u201csocial distancing\u201d regulations that have been put on all of us, this anxiety may be amplified for you.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If anxiety in relationships isn\u2019t something you had previously dealt with, it may be something that has been coming up for you now.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">As these \u201csocial distancing\u201d regulations begin to be lifted in different parts of the country, a whole new kind of anxiety might be setting in for you. The anxiety of whether it\u2019s really safe to go out now? &#8230;to meet someone new? \u2026to hug or kiss?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If you have been or are experiencing anxiety for any reason, you\u2019re not alone, and the number one thing you can do for yourself under our current circumstances is to <b>honor yourself<\/b>. Get clarity around what\u2019s\u00a0 true for you. Let go of social agreements and make a decision you can stand by.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>One of the essential\u00a0 elements of being an Irresistible Woman is being connected to what you really feel and standing confidently in it.\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">So, what do you do if, because the restrictions are being lifted in your community, a guy asks you if you\u2019d like to meet, and you still feel like it\u2019s too soon?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">You can say, <i>\u201cFor me, it\u2019s still too soon to meet in person, but I\u2019d love to keep getting to know you.\u201d<\/i> From there he can decide whether or how he wants to make that happen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It&#8217;s as easy as that.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">What if you had anxiety before Covid-19? Did experiencing distance (either physical or perceived distance ) in a relationship trigger you before?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Did you find yourself sending memes that you found funny or articles you thought he\u2019d be interested in because you\u2019re feeling anxious that you haven&#8217;t heard from him in a few days (or hours!)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Do you find yourself doing these things just so you can get on his radar and get the hit that will deflate the anxiety when\/if he responds?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If so, remember this: <b>It\u2019s not as helpful to pay attention to what <i>he\u2019s <\/i>doing as it is to pay attention to how <i>you\u2019re <\/i>reacting to it.<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Your reaction is what\u2019s causing the anxiety.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">When the anxiety hits, ask yourself: <i>\u201cWhat is it that\u2019s really bothering me?\u201d \u201cWhy does not hearing from him worry me so much?\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">And then be gentle with yourself.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It\u2019s a fear that\u2019s getting triggered, and it can feel all-consuming.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Take a breath and remind yourself that you\u2019re safe and nothing bad is happening to you.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If you\u2019re feeling this over a guy you\u2019ve just started seeing, then remind yourself that you\u2019re just getting to know each other and it\u2019s okay that you haven\u2019t heard from him. It doesn\u2019t mean anything.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If it\u2019s someone you\u2019ve been seeing a little longer, then ask yourself if the anxiety you\u2019re feeling is\u00a0 because you\u2019re getting attached because he\u2019s\u00a0 the only person you\u2019re seeing. If you\u2019re still not in a committed relationship with a man, maybe it\u2019s time to open up to seeing others as well.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>It is also powerful to notice if anxiety is a pattern you\u2019ve created for yourself.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Not to downplay it in any way, as anxiety is a very real experience that has your nervous system go crazy and triggers irrational thoughts. But notice if being in a state of high anxiety\u00a0 is something you\u2019ve trained yourself to feel.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">We find with many women that they feel \u201calive\u201d when they\u2019re worrying about something and that, even when things are calm and going well, they <i>still <\/i>feel anxiety because they automatically (and subconsciously) start looking for something to worry about it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Anxiety can also be triggered by wanting to control people, conditions, or circumstances that are outside of your control.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If you notice yourself in this pattern, start teaching yourself how to shift.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If you find yourself looking for something to worry about, notice and laugh about it.
